The IB Advantage
The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme is recognised by universities in 150+ countries. Its emphasis on critical thinking, extended essays, and Theory of Knowledge (TOK) prepares students for the rigour of international universities.
- Globally recognised — especially strong for UK and US admissions
- Develops research and writing skills early through Extended Essay
- CAS (Creativity, Activity, Service) builds a holistic extracurricular profile
- Graded on a 45-point scale — universities understand the rigor well
Where CBSE Wins
- Lower cost — IB schools charge ₹5–15L/year vs ₹1–3L for CBSE
- Directly aligned with JEE / NEET syllabus if engineering or medicine is the goal
- Wider availability — thousands of schools across India
- Board exams provide clear, measurable benchmarks for domestic admissions
IB is not "better" — it is different. The right board depends on where you want to study and what you want to study.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can IB students apply to IIT through JEE?
Yes, IB students can appear for JEE. However, the IB syllabus does not directly align with JEE topics, making simultaneous preparation very difficult. CBSE students have a significant advantage for competitive engineering entrance exams.
Do US universities prefer IB over CBSE?
US universities accept both. However, IB scores (especially Higher Level subjects at 6–7) are well-understood by US admissions officers and can earn college credit. Strong CBSE grades with excellent SAT scores are equally competitive.
Is switching from CBSE to IB mid-school advisable?
Switching is generally not recommended after Class 9. The IB Diploma is a 2-year programme (equivalent to Class 11–12). If considering IB, ideally start the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) earlier.
